I initially visited Provence at the invitation of my friend, Beth Vosoba, owner of Essence de Provence, in 1998. Armed with my camera, no French language skills and no expectations, I explored all that my two weeks would allow. I got lost in tiny perched villages, shopped the local markets, visited art galleries, tasted many different wines, and dipped my toes in the cold Mediterranean Sea. By the time I flew back to Nebraska, I was completely enchanted with Provence… so rich with history, art, culture and beauty.
Fall, 2000 - One warm Provence evening over a glass of wine, my friend, Deodat Delfendahl, mentioned that a few of his friends were interested in renting their homes during the summer months. I had been brainstorming with possible business ideas in the area, so we decided to visit these 5 homes. They were wonderful! I could imagine myself staying in any one of them and I liked the idea of sharing my acquired resources with others. It felt like the perfect fit and 50 + homes later, it still fits me just perfectly.
Provence borders are defined by nature: to the west, the Rhône river; south, the Mediterranean Sea; and north, where the olive trees end. To the east are the Alps and a border which has shifted over the centuries between France and Italy. Within these borders is a contrasting terrain of gorges, mountains, rolling hills, saltflats, lavender fields, fruit orchards and sun-drenched beaches. The apartments, villas, country homes and chateaux that we offer are sprinkled throughout these borders and are carefully selected.
The warm sunlight nurtures intense flavors and colors and has been an inspiration for artists such as Van Gogh, Cezanne and Picasso. It has inspired me as well and has lured me back time and time again.
I welcome the opportunity to inspire you.
